Revised and automated the client's former manual method of marking and tagging fish—an arduous process that involved anesthetizing and handling each salmon individually, creating repetitive stress injuries.
Developed a series of systems that worked together as a unit. Kept the fingerlings in a consistent and known orientation—right side up, headfirst—with the staging system. Ensured the fish entered the system one at a time by creating a gating system. Stabilized the fish and exposed the adipose fin for removal with the holding system (split, contoured head molds). Removed the adipose fin with meticulous accuracy; removal had to be between 80% and 100% for maximum effectiveness and safety, with the marking system.
