The design started with Intels FlexATX PC Ease of Use Initiative motherboard designed in its Desktop Architecture Lab. The greatest technical obstacle was getting high-resolution, high-bandwidth functionality in something other than a beige box. The solution lied in developing a computer that would serve many purposes and work for many users.
Packaged off-the-shelf traditional PC components into a dramatically different form factor. Kept the design flexible and powerful, yet simple enough to be anywhere and appeal to everyone. Provided for networking and remote device services throughout the home. Made prototypes from SLAs, machined aluminum and a cast iron ikebana flower stand.
