The greatest challenge was how to package the incredibly high disk drive density in a serviceable manner while ensuring optimal thermal management. Eight removable disk drive modules were used to allow access to the 112 disk drives. Stratos performed thermal analysis on a breadboard to verify the viability of the system architecture. Two design turns were completed with EMC and environmental testing being competed.
